Frequently asked questions

How do I mention a Discord user by ID?+

Wrap the numeric user ID like <@123456789012345678>. The tool builds that syntax for you.

How do role mentions work?+

Role mentions use <@&roleId>. Members with that role get notified if the channel allows role pings.

Can I mention custom emoji from another server?+

Only if your server has Discord Nitro or the emoji is from a server you share. Syntax still uses <:name:id>.

Where do I find Discord IDs?+

Enable Developer Mode in Discord settings, then right-click a user, role, channel, or emoji and copy ID.

Use cases

  • Draft bot announcement templates with correct mention syntax.
  • Link channels in rules posts without guessing markdown.
  • Format custom emoji IDs for webhook messages.

Discord Mention Formatter

Discord mentions ping users, highlight roles, link channels, and insert custom emoji by ID. Enter the type and numeric ID here to copy the exact syntax bots and messages expect.

What Discord mentions do

User mentions notify someone directly. Role mentions ping everyone with that role if permissions allow it.

Channel mentions create clickable links to another room. Custom emoji mentions render server emoji outside their home guild when the syntax is correct.

Mention syntax by type

Users use angle brackets with an at sign and ID: <@123>. Roles add an ampersand: <@&456>. Channels use a hash: <#789>.

Custom emoji wrap the name and ID with colons. Animated emoji add a leading a before the colons.

Finding Discord IDs

Enable Developer Mode in Discord settings, then right-click a user, role, channel, or emoji and copy the ID.

Our ID lookup tool decodes snowflakes if you only need creation dates or public profile previews.

Where mentions work

Paste mentions into messages, embed descriptions, bot responses, and webhook payloads.

Some channels disable role mentions or @everyone pings. Check channel permissions before mass pings.

Tips for bots and templates

Store raw IDs in bot config, then let this tool format them when you draft announcements.

Test emoji mentions in the target server — missing emoji IDs render as broken placeholders.
