Discord Reaction Role Template
Reaction roles let members self-assign roles by clicking emoji on a message. Copy a setup template here, post it in your server, and attach reactions that map to each role.
How reaction roles work
You publish a message listing emoji and the roles they grant. Members click an emoji to receive or remove that role.
Discord does not ship a built-in reaction role UI for every server. Most communities use bots like Carl-bot, Reaction Roles, or similar plugins.
Using these templates
Pick a template that matches your server size and role count. Copy the message text, edit emoji and role names, then post in your roles channel.
After posting, add the same emoji as reactions on that message and configure your bot to watch it.
Planning role tiers
Separate cosmetic color roles from ping roles. Color pickers should not grant @everyone mention access.
Keep the list short on one message — long grids confuse mobile users. Split into multiple messages if you have many options.
Bot configuration tips
Most bots ask for the message ID and channel ID. Enable Developer Mode and copy IDs from the message context menu.
Test with an alt account before advertising the panel in announcements.
Maintenance
Update the template when you rename roles or swap emoji. Broken mappings leave members stuck without the right color.
Pin the reaction role message and link it from your welcome channel so new members find it quickly.
